Q: What specific foods should my grandson NOT eat because he has acid reflux?

He has had acid reflux since birth.  Now at 2+, his voice sounds scraggly when he is having an epiosde.  He has a very red and sore bottom.  I have suggested that he not be eating yogurt, cheese or milk which he loves as they all agitate reflux.  When he is not ph balanced, his behavior is out of control.

Hello Grandma,

Oh, poor baby! If he has a diaper rash or eczema, he needs to be evaluated by his doctor and maybe referred to a pediatric food allergist. It is hard to say what food (s) are irritating. You might want to keep a food diary and track what he is eating for a few days. Bring this information to the doctor too.

Lactose intolerance is common with reflux. I do hear a lot about food allergies and reflux too: dairy, peanuts, wheat.

Certainly, his reflux treatment needs to be assessed as well. The doctor may need to change his treatment as he has new symptoms. I really think behavior is an indicator. My girls always had more behavior issues when their reflux was acting up.
