causes one to wake in the middle of night not being able to catch a breath w/burning in throat

I woke up in the middle of the night and could not breath. It took me about 4 to five trys to catch my breath again before I was able to take in air. I had a burning sensation in my throat like when you burp but a small amount of vomit is on top and it burns your throat. This has happened several times but the last time was the most severe. Is this acid refulx?
