Planning pregnancy, currently have 2 incisional hernias...

Hi,

My husband and I have put off getting pregnant a second time for over 2 years now.

I gave birth to my son in March of 2005.  In July of 2006 I went in for a colonoscopy and my GI Doctor perforated my intestine.  I had emergency surgery that same night and the outcome was a colostomy.  I had the colostomy for about one year (reversed in Oct, 2007).  A few months ago i noticed a bulge in the middle of my stomach, right over my incision about the size of my closed fist, maybe slightly smaller. I didnt know what it was so I went directly into the E.R. where they performed a cat scan and a few x-rays.  The Doctors told me I had TWO hernias.  To make a long story short My surgeon said I can put off the surgery, but I need to be VERY careful.

My husband and I dont want to continue to wait to get pregnant, as long as there's no risks for me or the baby of course.  Both hernias seem to be incisional hernias, but i think the one that is on the incision where my stoma was, might be a stoma hernia, because it's always bulged up (since the colostomy).

Please let me know if there's any risks for me or the baby if we decide to get pregnant right away.

Also, I would like to know how long I should wait after the surgery to repair the hernia to get pregnant.

Thank you.
