My daugher had reflux as a baby and was medicated until she was 4 years old. At 9 she developed a chronic dry cough that was really bothersome. It seemed to come and go but then it just decided to stay. Sometimes she would cough so much she would get dizzy. We had her tested for allergies - she's allergic to dust mites. Tried allergy meds. No luck. Tried a nebulizer for asthma. Nope. Tried inhaled steriods for asthma. Nope. Decided to give her Prevacid on my own (yes, I realize you shouldn't do this but she was on it at 4 so it wasn't like it was "new" prescription). Cough went away. Stayed away for a month. Stopped the Prevacid. Cough back within 3 days. Back on Prevacid - cough gone. I told this to her Pediatrician who agreed that it was obviously the reflux causing the asthma like symptoms (there is research to back this as well). Now she's maintained on Zantac before bed each night and has been for months with no cough..........   Sorry to be so long but it's a good example of how a chronic cough and throat clearing can be due to reflux. It's always good to get it checked though as these can be symptoms of other things as well.   Good Luck - Stephanie
