Q: Is it common to vomit while on Prevacid?

Hello,

My son, who is 7 years old, has been put on Pravacid twice/day to treat GERD. Fiver days after taking Prevacid he is starting to vomit once a day, usually in the afternoon. Is this a common side effect of the medication??

The pediatrician did not seem to think it was related and did not give much importance to it. It has happened 4 days on a row.

Thank you.

Hello Monica,

Nausea is a common side effect of Prevacid. Every child is different and a new symptom certainly can be related to the medication. If the doctor is not concerned, keep track of his symptoms for a few more days and call back. Maybe your son needs a split dose (half the dose in am, half at night) or a lower dose. A few parents have told me switching brands of medication made a difference. Just don't ask me to explain why!

Please check back in and give us an update.
