Topics:Acid Reflux Medication

I have been taking 150mg Zantac effervescent ,which was prescribed to me by my OB GYN. I have been taking it for one month and there is no change. Please let me know as the pain in the upper abdomen is unbearable. My vomitting has decreased as it was severe and I had to go in for IV drips once a week but , it has decreased to twice daily with the presence of bile.

Hi Praveen Rampersad,

I know it is tough when you are pregnant to find any relief. I lived off of cottage cheese and pineapple my entire pregnancy with my daughter.

Dr Todd Eisner answered a question from another reader about what causes acid reflux during pregnancy and gave some tips on how to cope. You can read the entire article here, but here is a short excerpt:

As to the treatment of heartburn in pregnancy, first, lifestyle modifications are recommended. That would include:

  • elevating the head of the bed
  • lying on one's left side at night
  • avoiding caffeine, chocolate and peppermints
  • eating frequent, small meals.
  • chewing gum (may be helpful as saliva production can neutralize acid).

Hope you find something here that helps. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
