Thank you for your question. Nexium and Prilosec are similar medications, but they are not the exact same thing. Prilosec's generic name is omeprazole, and Nexium is esomeprazole. You can see that the names are similar, indicating that they are in fact related. That being said, each medication works differently in each person that takes it, so it's entirely possible that one medication works for you while the other one doesn't. Perhaps your body has trouble converting the omeprazole to the active form, esomeprazole, and this is why the Nexium works for you. Just be glad that you've found something that works!
