Q: is otc prilosec effective in treating acid reflux.

I am currently taking Nexium and wondering if I can switch to an over the counter acid reflux medicine as prilocsec. Is prilocsec as effective?

Hi Mel,

You can read more about Prilosec here in the drugs database. Apparently, Prilosec is considered a "sister" drug to Nexium. You can read about Nexium here.

Hope this helps somewhat! Take care and stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!

I have taken both Nexium and Prilosec.  I believe it all depends on the person.  They are sister drugs for sure.

Currently I take Prilosec along with Zantac as prescribed my doctor as these two drugs from from different properties and help double as much.
