Q: I work in a nursing home where I do peri care. Lately foul odors have triggered abdominal pain, why

I am 26 yrs old and lately I have been having pain around my whole abdominal area and I also can feel it somewhat in the middle of my back.It feels like I am hungry or like I have gas. I work in a nursing home and lately I have noticed that the foul odors can trigger the pain also. It also comes when I lay on my back. The pain seems to weaken when I am eating and after a bowel movement, but only for a few hours. I have also noticed that I have some bloating. I don't know if this is related to this problem, but I have also been very cranky and agitated. I am really worried, can someone please help?

Hi TT_26,

Online resources are not a substitute for the advice of your doctor. The sources you find online are great for helping you ask all the right questions of your doctor. That being said, I am not sure why the smells would trigger your pain, other than maybe you are experiencing a little anxiety around the smells because you perceive them as a trigger for the pain. What you are describing sounds like it could be related to irritable bowel syndrome or extreme bouts with gas. Here is some useful information about IBS. You can read symptoms, causes and tips for dealing with IBS here. As always, you should see a doctor for professional diagnosis and treatment. This guide will give you information that will help you ask the right questions of your doctor.

Hope this helps a bit. Take care and stay in touch, let us know how you are doing!
