My 5 year old has GERD and it is affecting her growth.

My daughter was diagnosed with GERD at 4 months. With Nexium, zantac and motilium she grew beautifully. How ever treatment seems on and off. She is 5 years now. Does this affect weight gain and overall growth? She seems to lose weight over time, always feeling sleepy, eats 2 bites and says she is full, tummy aches and no throwing up. Will nexium help her? To put on weight and give her the energy of a 5 year old?

You are right to question whether or not reflux is affecting your daughter's growth. How long has it been since she was medicated? Have you discussed this with your doctor? I know with my daughter she was so used to the symptoms of reflux she never thought to mention them since they were "normal" to her.

If she's not getting enough calories to grow then she is very likely to be sleepy.

You need to discuss the options with her pediatrician. There are a lot of medication options. If you aren't getting the answers you need at the pediatrician then you may want to consider a GI specialist for her.

Good Luck - Stephanie
