my baby is on axid 3 times a day still dont seem to be getting better help
Dear Dana,
I will try to assist you but you probably need to check back with the doctor. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) may be a bit tricky to treat. You may need to try several treatments before getting control over the symptoms. So checking with the doctor is the first step.
It is important to ask the doctor what the goal of the treatment is. Sometimes parents are disappointed that the medication has not stopped the vomiting. Unfortunately, the medication is not an anti vomiting medication. Most medications for GERD reduce or stop the acid in the stomach. Often reducing the acid settled the stomach and reduces vomiting or even stop the vomiting.
It may take a few days or a few weeks to see improvement. Be sure to ask the doctor about what to expect.
Some babies need a combination of treatments such as a special diet, upright positioning after a meal, small meals or frequent burping in addition to medication. Again, it may take a few weeks to find a combination that brings relief to your baby.
I hope this answers your question. Be sure to send a reply if you need further assistance.
Best wishes,
Jan Gambino
