I need to treat the Helicobacter pylori. I've been supbscribed a Pylera, but it should

be taken in conjunction with Prilosec. My insurance doesn't cover it. Instead, in the pharmacy

they are offering me Privacid. I'm not sure if I can replace it in this case, because on the Pylera packaging it says it needs to be taken with omeprazole, which is Prilosec.

Hello Ira66,

Prilosec and Prevacid are similar medications-just to be sure, it is best to check with the pharmacist or doctor. You could also ask the insurance company for advice and they may be able to authorize the Prilosec if that is the only medication you can take.

Hi Ira, I just finished that Pylera treatment--ten days of it (UUGGHHH)!  Not an easy task, since it's four times a day and during those six hours, you are sleeping!!!  Please be sure to take it always on a full stomach and follow up with lots of water.  Thankfully, I got through it.  Now, I'm just hoping when i retest with the balloon test, it will be a negative result!  I had the discussion with my GI and he told me I needed to take the Pylera in conjunction with Omeprazole tablets (twice a day), and Omeprazole is over the counter.  So, you shouldn't have a problem getting the right medication to go with it.  Also, be aware that one of the medications in Pylera contains Metroconazole (Flagyl) which darkens your urine.  Nothing serious, but I was alarmed but then read the side effects of it and felt better.  Good Luck!
