Do I have Acid Reflux?

Whitney
09/21/09

I am a 25 year old female - for the past 3 months off and on (did subside the last time) I have had a constant feeling of a "lump" in the back of my throat.  I am constantly clearing my throat, have a dry cough, cannot seem to get any relief from this feeling.

I have tried numerous pastes, mouth washes etc as I had originally thought this was because of dryness - no relief.  It is worse at night, in bed.  I do get acid regurgitation, a few times a week up into my mouth.  I feel like it is alot of phlegm back there, but no matter how much I cough etc, I cannot bring it up.  Another thing I am now wondering about is post-nasal drip?  As I am also constantly blowing my nose.

Just started on Prevacid 2 days ago.  Can someone please help, very annoying, uncomfortable feeling.  Anything I can be taking as a natural remedy to help?

Thanks.

Have you seen a doctor about this?I wouldn't want you to assume it's reflux and treat it for that when it could be something else.

That said, with your history of refluxing it is possible that reflux is the cause. All of your symptoms can be related to reflux. See:

There are some other things that you can do to try and relieve the symptoms. Many of us with reflux have to do these things in addition to medication. These include avoiding certain foods, not eating too close to bed time, avoiding smoke and/or alcohol, etc. You can find more about these at:

Good Luck - I hope the Prevacid helps. If the lump feeling is due to inflammation though it may take a few weeks for everything to heal and get back to normal.
