Q: If the cause of GERD is due to a weak muscle, how can diet, exercise and cures so to speak, work?

I'm 70 and have GERD for more than 5 years which was diagnosed by a test which showed the muscle not being tight . If the cause of GERD is due to a weak muscle how can diet, exercise and cures so to speak work. I had a major problem with prescribed medicine over a 5 year period and now take Calcium citrate and a digestive enzyme in powder form which works for me and eliminates side effects of the medicine.
