Q: I was just diagnosed as probably having acid reflux.

i went to the doctor thinking I had a post nasal drip, but she thinks it's acid reflux because I have what she calls bronchial restriction - my sympton being I sometimes can't take a deep breath. I feel lots of mucus in the back of my throat and further down ( espogosu?) and have to constantly try to clear my throat to get rid of it. I have it worse after I eat ( her suspicion) and when I lie down wathcing tv I have to boost my head with extra pillows. I don't have it when I first get up in the morning, but after I eat breakfast. I have no burning feeling, I have no burping, no upset stomach, etc, the classic symptoms. She told me to take Prilosac OTC for a few days and see how I feel. I am anxious to find out what this is as I am having surgery in three weeks and worry when I can't take a deep breathe (it goes away, however)

Hi Sara,

The symptoms you are describing can be related to acid reflux. You do not have to have heartburn or discomfort to have an issue related to acid reflux. You can read more about acid reflux here in the over view. You can also check your symptoms here in the symptoms database. Since your doctor has prescribed medications, you can check those here in the drugs database. Prilosec OTC is the over the counter formulary of the brand name Prilosec or Omeprozole (generic). You can read about Prilosec here. You can also check out alternative treatments here in the treatments database.

I hope this helps. There is alot of great information here at Health Central that will help you ask all the right questions when you see your doctor, however, online resources should never take the place of your doctor's care and advice.

Take care and stay in touch!
