Q: Can GERD cause irregular heart rate?

For the past year I have suffered from irregular heart rate (PAC'S) I have been seen by a cardiologist and have been put on Toprolol. The pac's occur mostly after eating. If I lay down and turn on my right side the irregular heart seems to go away. I get abdominal bloating easily and have a lot of belching but not really heartburn. Should I go and see a gastroenterogist and be checked out?

Even if you weren't having issues with your irregular heart rate it would be good to have the GI issues checked out. Have you mentioned to your cardiac doctor that you notice an increase after eating? I googled this and found that there are a lot of people describing the same problem. I couldn't find any specific cause some of the theories were that it had to do with the blood shunting to the stomach and others that it has to do with the autonomic nervous system going a little whacky due to the food.

Either way, you should definitely bring it up to your cardiac doctor and consider seeing a gastroenterologist.

You might want to research a hiatal hernia and see if the two might be related.
