My 54 year old [healthy, active, non-smoking/non-drinking] husband ate a bowl of cereal last night for dinner and had difficulty sleeping because of chest pain. He said that the pain subsided when he stood up. Today he still has chest pain [kind of a residue of the pain]. Do we need to be concerned? He play racquetball and is in very good physical condition as far as we know. Embarassed

I would check with your family doctor.  It might be he has acid reflux and eating any food in the evening after 7:00 can cause this pain at night.

Hi Caroline,

While online sources are great for getting information to ask all the right questions, no online resource can take the place of your doctor's care and advice. Your husband should see a doctor to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong causing the chest pain. Heart conditions can mask themselves as acid reflux and vice versa. Better to be safe. Dr Todd Eisner advises to have chest pain checked out. You can read the entire sharepost here.

Stay in touch and let us know how you and your husband are doing!

woke up at 4:00 in the morning with chest pain. After drinking alot it went away, then a few hours later it came back, so i drank alot more, the same 12 hrs. later. I'm 51 yrs. old and never had this problem before. What might it be?
