Q: 15 Mo old daughters GERD is back?

Just wanted some insite, my daughter 15 mo old was DX with GERD and milk allergy at 2 days old and was put on Nutramigen formula and Prilosec. She seemed to be outgrowing it and was weaned from her meds. She was slowly transitioned to cups and milk and table foods. She is petitie and just weighs 22 pds. She eats some for breakfast and a little lunch and a dinner. She is not much of an eater. About 3 mo ago she started vomiting again after she eats so she was put back on the prilosec. We are being flown to see a GI dr. (Hubby is military and we live in Japan) so off to Hawaii in a month. Just curious if these symptoms seem like GERD. She is also on zyrtec. When she vomits looks like Curdled milk and smells really acidy. She also fusses and crys for about 15 min before she vomits.

Hello!

I am glad you have an appointment with a GI doctor soon. It is possible for the GERD to come back so restarting the medication is a good first step. Does it seem to be helping to control the symptoms?

Did she have Milk Soy Protein Intolerance as a baby? This is very common. I wonder if the transition to table foods and dairy triggered some underlying allergies/intolerances. Try to keep a food diary for 3-4 days and bring the information to the doctor. Also keep a symptoms diary: sleeping, eating, vomiting, crying, upset stomach, cough, etc. Again, this will help you make the most of your time with the doctor and get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

Diet may be an important part of her treatment plan. Ask the doctor if she should have a special toddler beverage that is dairy and soy free or hypoallergenic. Ask if food allergy testing would be helpful.

Let us know what you find out.

Best wishes,

When she was 2 days old she had blood in her stool and projectile vomiting so they put her on Nutramigien Formula for and that with the Prilosec seemed to help some. Weight gain has always been a stuggle for her. I will start a food and symtpom log today and keep ot going for the week. They said they will do allergy testing and may do a scope of some sort. I didnt want to google it and get myself all worked up as that sounds scary to my husband and I, but if it will help her to feel better and find the correct meds it will be worth it :) I'll come back on and let you know next month what they say

Thx for the info
