My 25 year old son called me stating he had just finished eating and was taking the trash to the dumpster when he experienced regurgitation followed by chest pain.  The next thing he knew he was on the ground with a knot on the back of his head.  Apparently, he passed out immediately after the chest pain. He is not having any chest pains only a headache from the fall.  He has had "heartburn" for several years just treating it with Tums. He has no insurance.

Hi Debbie,

This sounds like something your son should see a doctor about. While online sites like Health Central are great resources of information, they can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical care. The symptoms you describe are not typical but only a doctor can know for sure. Here is some more information that will help you when it's time to speak to the doctor.

You can read about GERD here in the overview and you can check your symptoms here in the symptoms database. Once you have seen your doctor, if he prescribes medication for GERD, you can read about them here in the drugs database. You can also research treatments available and alternatives here in the treatments database.

I hope this helps somewhat. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Vicki M
