Is 15mg tablet once day too high a dose for my 16.5lb infant?
The Dr. increased the dosage to 15 mg tablet, that I crush and give once a day, about a month ago. I'm trying to figure out if it is a coincidence or connected that my son has stopped sleeping and appears to have a lot of stomach pain/gas all night long (we give him the prevacid at about 6pm). Ther has been no change in his diet. Since the increased dosage, his spitting up has all but stopped.
Have you talked to your doctor about this? How long after starting him on the higher dosage did you start seeing these symptoms? How long has he been having these symptoms? Have you started him on any new foods?
When my son was his size he was on the same dosage but he got it split between two times in the day. We split the tablet in half and gave him half in the morning and half before bed trying to keep it about 12 hours apart. You may want to ask about this as an option.

Hello!
I agree with Stephanie that it is important to check in with the doctor. There is a lot of guess work with babies and sometimes it isn't clear if the medication is causing new problems or if there is a new health issue.
There is a big range of dosing for babies since babies tend to metabolize their medication very rapidly compared to adults. Sometimes an adult is on the same dose of Prevacid medication as a child. This just doesn't seem right but research has shown that the dosing used by doctors is the most effective.
Prevacid is time released meaning a little bit of medication can last for 24 hours. Be sure to check with the doctor and pharmacist about how to give him the tablet. When a baby or toddler cannot swallow a pill, the pharmacist will compound it into a liquid that can be given from a medication spoon or medication syringe. Certain types of Prevacid should not be crushed because it will make the medication inactive.
