Hello! Nexium and Prilosec are both brand names for a medication called a Proton Pump Inhibitor. They are similar medications but sometimes one brand seems to work better than another. Since you are going to the GI on Monday, be sure to ask if this is the best treatment for the symptoms. It is worrisome that your son is gagging and vomiting on babyfood. My refluxers were not at all interested in baby food and went straight to table foods at 12-15 months. I had to go very slowly with new foods. Sometimes swallowing is painful from reflux. Other times, there is gagging or choking from an oral motor problem. Ask the doctor if part of the treatment plan would be a consult with a feeding specialist such as a speech language pathologist. Good luck, Jan Gambino The Reflux Mom www.refluxmom.com
