Hello!

Reflux is common in all age groups. Babies and adults with reflux get a lot of attention but just as many teens have reflux too.

My girls are 14 and 17 years old and they go to school, spend hours on Facebook, stay up late doing home work, go to concerts and football games with reflux. I bet there are kids in your class with reflux and you don't even know it. Its not exactly a common topic of conversation.

I wonder how many teens are reading this message. If you are, say hi and tell us your age and what reflux feels like.  So far, we have had a message from a 14 year old and a 17 year old this week.

Hi - does this happen during the day, or just at night?

One of the most effective ways to help it at night is to raise the foot of your bed 4 to 6 inches.  It may sound weird to sleep that way, but it really does help.  You can get bed risers even in Target and Walmart.  Some are shaped for square legs, some for round, and they cost between $15 - $20 so it's not expensive.

Diet changes do help some people, so do whatever you can to avoid things that aggravate it (particularly smoking - there is nothing good that comes from smoking, and a lot of bad!)   Hot foods - avoiding these help some, but not all.  I would start with the risers - just get 2, for the one end of the bed.  If your bed is on a wood floor, or has wheels, you may need to get the little 'coaster' type of rubber feet to put under them so the bed won't slide...

Good luck - your health is worth it because YOU are.  Don't delay!

Hey im 16 and ive had it for over a year! I know it seems unfair but it happens. The disease could run through your family or you eat/drink the wrong things or other things. Dont feel bad im getting surgery so it could be worse. Try to cope and keep in touch with your doctor!
