We cannot give you recommendations about medications; however, if you tell me what medication you were taking I can tell you what the over the counter alternatives are. Additionally, you can ask any pharmacist and they should be able to show you the alternatives.

I'm guessing a bit here as the situation in UK is different from the US.

I'm assuming you are wanting a PPI? Drugs are marketted under branded names (Prilosec, Zegerid, Zoton, Prevacid) but often a generic version is available - just called omeprazole or lansoprazole and I'm guessing someone like Walmart produce their own version of these which would be cheaper?

In UK, most of us who need PPIs get them on prescription from our doctors and pay the National health prescription charge (or get them free if we're over 60) so we have no need to buy OTC more cheaply.

When it comes to Ranitidine, however, many do buy this over the counter and supermarket branded generic versions are cheaper than Zantac.

Don't know if that helps.
