I have acid reflux all the time (during day and night) no matter what I eat or drink. This has been building since january this year. I have already had endoscopy and motility study (normal). I am on Protonix 40 mg twice daily since May 12. Before that I was originally told to try otc remedies (didn't work). I was in the ER with chest pains in May and had to see a cardiologist, and it did turn out to be acid reflux. I am really at my wit's end because I am not living a normal life anymore. I eat small amounts and am trying to eat only more alkaline type foods, but I still get reflux after I eat (or drink water). No wine or coffee since May. I am taking antacids during day to stay sane, but I don't like doing this. Do you think it is a matter of time before the reflux calms down? My gastroenterologist said it could be between 3-6 months before I feel better. Most of my problems are in my throat, nose and ears (right now my left ear is totally plugged). By the way, I started in January seeing an ENT first, who did a CT scan after being sick 6 weeks and said everything was clear--he suggested I see a gastro doc about acid reflux.
Is it possible for the LES to heal if a person is doing their utmost to eat/drink correctly? I don't smoke and I am normal weight also. Thanks for any help or ideas--I really appreciate it!
