The short answer to your question is that it is possible that acid reflux (GERD) is causing these symptoms, but it could also be many other things, so you should check with your doctor to find out what is causing the symptoms.   GERD can cause coughing in some people, which can then sometimes cause choking in people laying down. One thing that is often recommended for GERD sufferers is to slightly elevate their head and upper boddy so as to make it harder for the stomach acid to reach a point where it can cause symptoms like coughing, etc. However, you should check with your doctor to find what the cause may be and what treatment is right for you.
