Q: Can omeprazole (Prilosec) cause high blood pressure or an increase in cholesterol?

The full paperwork on Prilosec does list high blood pressure as possible side effect but not increase in cholesterol.

Yes this is possible. Omeprazole inhibits cholesterol cleavage. Cholesterol cleavage is cholesterol breakdown in the body. Normally cholesterol breakdowns in the body and if that happens properly there will be no cholesterol problem. But as Omeprazole inhibits cholesterol cleavage, cholesterol levels increase in your body when using Omeprazole. I have personally experienced this and my physician had to accept this when I showed him the European Journal of Clinical where this fact is discussed.
