My daughter has GERD and I can't get her to gain weight. She's irritable and refuses food. When she does eat, she throws it up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi SaraH,
You are not alone, there are many members here who have children with acid reflux and many postings about babies who don't want to eat. I listed some of these comments below.
There is a great section here specifically about Baby GER. There are lots of helpful tips and information there.
Jan Gambino is a resident expert on pediatric GERD. You can read her shareposts here. One in particular about Baby Emily might interest you. That article is here. Jan also wrote an article for a young woman who was having a very difficult time getting her baby to eat. It's called Help my baby won't eat, and you can read the article here.
Tracy Davenport also is a resident expert and has children with acid reflux. You can read about Tracy here and her shareposts here.
Marinaibra is a member here who has had difficulty with her son. You can read her sharepost here and the answers below.
I hope this helps!! Please stay in touch and let us know how you and your daughter are doing!
Dear Sarah, It is so worrisome when a baby will not eat and gain weight. I am so sorry you are in the middle of this difficult situation.
I hope you are working with your pediatricain or a gastroenterologist. Helping a baby overcome feeding challenges is not something that a parent can do by themselves at home.
Your baby may need a combination of treatments such as diet, positioning, thickened formula/breastmilk and medication. Let me know what you have tried and how old your baby is now. I would be happy to assist you further.
Hang in there. It will get better.

The Reflux Mom
My almost 11 month(Janaesah) old has acid reflux and weighs around 7.3 pounds and I am wondering how to help her gain weight. Your daughter might just be one of those smaller kids because she may never gain the perfect amount of weight. You may just want to feed her for longer(35-45 minutes) and make sure she gets lots of sleep and poppies alot more and urinates slightly less. But you have to make sure if you want her to gain at least 3 pounds in the next cople of days she gets 2 hour naps if she is under the age of 1 year! That's how m baby gained a couple of pounds
