Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Jan Gambino asks

Q: What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Hello to Everyone at HealthCentral!

Thanksgiving is just a few days away and I was wondering what you are thankful for this year. When you have a baby or child with reflux, you may be thankful for a supportive spouse and family, the special medication or formula or the doctor who has answered your late night phone calls.

I am thankful for the wonderful, supportive HealthCentral community and all of the parents, grandparents, friends and caretakers who share their questions and concerns and offer support and information to each other.

So post a message and let us know what you are thankful for this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Jan,

Great question!

I am thankful to be able to work with such an accomplished group of expert patients who can share their experience and endless knowledge with our great community in order to (hopefully Smile!) provide helpful information that will make their lives easier and impact how they approach and manage the disease day to day.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I am most thankful this week that I now understand that most of my acid reflux problems stemmed from GLUTEN INTOLLERANCE SINCE CHILDHOOD.

IF I DO NOT EAT GLUTEN FOODS (WHEAT, RYE, BARLEY, OR REGULAR OATS PROCESSED WITH WHEAT, OR MODIFIED FOOD STARCH) I DO NOT HAVE ACID REFLUX PROBLEMS UNLESS I EAT LYING DOWN AND OVER-INDULGE. I ONLY TAKE NEXIUM IF I HAVE CHEATED ON MY NEW DIET AND CONSUME WHEAT OR OTHER GLUTEN CONTAINING FOODS.

I AM FREE OF THE PAIN AS LONG AS I AVOID GLUTEN-RICH FOODS LIKE WHEAT.

Best of all, my local supermarkets, bakery and health food market all offer a wide range of officially marketed GLUTEN-FREE alternative grains, baked goods and cereals. I also have been a label reader for years due to the other food sensitivities and allergies related to CELIAC DISEASE cause by gluten intollerance or allergy.

Now, if I could just convince my family not to use toxic waste such as black pepper when I visit them for the holidays.
