Q: Since starting Pepcid I have a metallic taste in mouth. Seen dentist, can't find anything wrong.

The metallic taste seems to mostly be on the left side of mouth. The back teeth and tongue seem to be affected. I have seen the dentist and he can find nothing wrong. I am at wits end. I have been on PPI's for eight years and can no longer take them due to side effects

While I can't find anything on the drug information websites about this as a side effect, there are many posts on the web about various reflux meds causing a metallic taste. It's also possible that the metallic taste can be a symptom of reflux since you have gone down from a PPI to an H2 blocker.

 

There are other H2 blockers you and your doctor can discuss. Maybe a different one may give you different results. Alternately, you may need to discuss your dosage. If you are having other symptoms of reflux, you may want to discuss with your doctor the possibility of your reflux not being adequately controlled.
