Q: Can hiatal hernias be operated on?

I have a fairly large hiatal hernia.  My doctor tells me that I have acid reflux.  I don't think I have this based on the symptoms listed here however I feel as though my hiatal hernia gets irriatated.  Can hiatal hernia's be removed? If so, what are the complications?

Hello!

It is possible for have a surgical repair of the hiatal hernia. Often, a doctor will recommend medical treatment instead of surgery. What are your symptoms? Have you tried some of the treatments for reflux such as diet and medication?
