Antacids

When a person comes to a doctor with acid reflux symptoms, often the first medication type suggested is an antacid.  Antacids that contain aluminum and magnesium lower the acid levels in the stomach.  Antacids with simethicone break up gas bubbles in the stomach.  Antacids only work on acid that is already in the stomach and does not prevent acid production.
