A patient asks Dr. Howard LeWine about the best time of day to take acid reflux medications. According to Dr. LeWine, most proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) work best when taken before eating, on an empty stomach, which may be easier to achieve in the morning. But even if taken after eating, most PPIs will still control symptoms. Dr. LeWine says that the time of day doesn't matter, as long as the dose is able to control symptoms for a full 24 hours.
