Can Beer Cause Heartburn

Wine appears to protect against Barrett's esophagus, a new study has found. Barrett's--a precursor to esophageal cancer--was found to be reduced among those who drank one glass of wine per day. The study of more than 900 Barrett's sufferers, GERD patients, and healthy adults did not find positive results for those who drank beer or liquor. Researchers say they key may be that polyphenols in red wine offer protection against oxidative stress caused by chronic heartburn.
