Gastrointestinal Cancer

A drug used to treat leukemia and some gastrointestinal cancers may
be useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Researchers at
Stanford gave the cancer drug Gleevec (imatinib) to mice that had
an RA-like disease. The study found that Gleevec almost completely
prevented the development of the arthritis-like condition in the
mice. The drug also halted the progression of the established
disease by significantly reducing inflammation and bone destruction
around the joints.
