FDA approves Kapidex for acid reflux

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a new acid reflux medication called Kapidex. The delayed-release proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) is made by Takeda, the same company that manufactures Prevacid, a PPI that will go off patent this year and face competition from cheaper generic meds. Studies suggest the new drug is not much more powerful than Prevacid. A study found that a 60-milligram dosage of Kapidex was similarly effective as a 30-milligram dose of its predecessor.
