According to a study, patients who suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and have acid reflux experience more COPD exacerbations over the course of a year than those without reflux. The study finds that patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have more breathing difficulty, more hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and more use of corticosteroids and antibiotics yearly than those without GERD.
