Of all the home remedies for easing heartburn, one of the simplest
may also be one of the best--try chewing gum. A group of
researchers determined that patients who chew sugar-free gum for 30
minutes following a meal have lower acid levels than patients who
do not chew gum. Experts say it works by stimulating saliva, which
neutralizes acid and forces fluids back into the stomach.
