Patients with IBD more likely to die from common hospital infection

According to a new study, patients who have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are four times as likely to die from the Clostridium difficile infection compared to patients without IBD. C. difficile is a bacterial infection that affects the gastrointestinal tract and is often caught in hospitals or long-term care facilities. Researchers say that patients with IBD may be especially susceptible to C. difficile because of existing inflammation in their gut. Read more »
