The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the heartburn drug Zegerid for over-the-counter use. The proton-pump inhibitor Zegerid combines the medication omeprazole with sodium bicarbonate, and it is intended to treat chronic heartburn. Zegerid's drugmaker says that medication will be available in capsule form in early 2010.
