Using previously published data, researchers have estimated the
costs of treating the symptoms of peptic ulcer disease. The cost of
testing and treating an infection caused by H. pylori--a bacteria
commonly associated with peptic ulcer disease--was lower than
starting treatment immediately with a proton-pump inhibitor.
