Extra pounds, smoking confirmed GERD risk factors

A new study confirms it--smoking and being overweight increase the risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
A study published in the journal Gastroenterology found that in groups of identical twins, those who were even marginally overweight and those who smoked were significantly more likely to experience the painful symptoms of GERD. Researchers say that alcohol use did not seem to increase GERD risk. Read more »
