New test for GERD may soon be available in doctors' offices

A new, less expensive test to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) may soon be available in primary care physicians' offices. The test, developed by a doctor at Wake Forest University, detects the presence of a digestive enzyme called human pepsin 3b in patients' saliva. This pepsin causes damage to esophageal tissues in patients with GERD and other reflux disorders. Read more »
