A new study has found that eating fruits and vegetables may strengthen bones by slowing down bone resorption. Researchers studied 171 men and women and found that those who took a supplement of potassium or sodium bicarbonate had much slower rates of bone loss than participants who took a placebo. Bicarbonate is an alkalizing compound produced when fruits and vegetables are digested.
