Gut bacteria may protect from esophageal cancer

The common, ulcer-causing bacteria called H. Pylori has been found to reduce the risk of asthma and allergies, and now researchers say it may help protect against cancer as well. Researchers studied data from 19 clinical trials and found that H. Pylori appeared to safeguard against esophageal adenocarcinoma--a type of cancer linked to obesity and acid reflux. Experts are not sure just how the microbe prevents cancer, but they say that the study adds evidence to the idea that the microbe has some health benefits that science has not previously understood.
