Experts say that anyone who suffers from chronic acid reflux should be screened for the condition known as Barrett's esophagus. Barrett's symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and painful heartburn mimic those of acid reflux, but the changes Barrett's causes in the lining of the esophagus can put people at a much higher risk of esophageal cancer.
