Reflux Surgery No Guard Against Cancer: Study

A 40-year study of thousands of patients who have had acid reflux surgery suggests the procedure does not protect against throat cancer. Researchers in Sweden found that people who'd had the surgery were still 12 times more likely to develop esophageal cancer later in life than people who didn't have acid reflux. Experts had thought that the surgery may protect against cancer years following surgery, but this study suggests that isn't true.  Read full story >
