Welcome ckstout,

A friend and I were talking yesterday about the variety of help available today for people with diagnoses such as ADD. I

As a person who was diagnosed a few years ago, is your life better, the same, or worse than before? Have your needs remained the same or changed? What has been helpful to you? What might be helpful to you in the future?

Grandma Lise (who could go on and on with her questions but will stop here)

Thank you for your reply. Yes, things did improve, just knowing what my problem was helped. There are no support groups around here. At times things are still very ruff, my house is a disaster most of the time, but the one wonderful thing that I have going for me is my husband- he is very patient with me. I work at a courthouse in the Auditor's office - I am the accounts payable clerk. I found it helped when I told them at work about my ADD, they were very understanding and are always trying to help me get organized- which as you well know is one of our problems as a ADD. I love this sight- I just found it yesterday. There is alot of information on it. Well Happy Easter!

Hey ckstout (and hey to you too Stardust),

Well, we have a lot in common already though I was diagnosed with ADD in 1990. I'm in my 40's, have an understanding husband, and I also work afternoons for county goverment in human resources. I work as a clerk. I maintain datebases and create fliers for our health promotion program. I also make copies, distribute fliers, assemble packets, greet the public, answer phones, and do a lot of filing!

One of my bosses, who is not my supervisor but whom I do a lot of work for, is professional, high detail oriented, and sets very high standards for the quality of my work whether the public sees it or not. I'm similar though I don't enjoy working with detail at the level that she does. She makes it look so easy. She's obviously not ADD!

I'm a recoverying perfectionist. It really upsets me when I make mistakes. Reading a book on perfectionism is helping.

My other supervisors are more like me, kinesthetic though not ADD. They also are professional, positive, and proactive. It's the best team environment I've ever worked in.

I've often wondered what people do in the auditor's office.

So glad you have a good job and an understanding husband. It makes a tremendous difference, doesn't it?

Happy Easter everyone!

Grandma Lise

Thank you for your reply. Thanks for the Happy Birthday! I just found this sight yesterday and loved reading your sight. Thank you for sharing.

I just took a guess that it was your birthday!

I really like this site, too.  The people are nice, and we're all in the same boat helping each other, sharing info, etc.  The experts are GREAT, too.  They really know what they are talking about.  If you have a question, you can email them too, but they keep an eye on the postings and reply all the time.

I have Bipolar II also, and there is a site here for that, and just about any other medical problem you may have.

Welcome, again.  Don't be a stranger.

ckstout, for me, too, it was like my life made sense when I was diagnosed.  I want to suggest a book because of what you said in your original post.  "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid, or Crazy?!  The classic Self-Help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder" by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo.

Hi ckstout,

Welcome to Health Central. We're glad you found us!!

Here are some links to information you might find useful. You've already heard from two of my favorite members, Grandma Lise and Stardust. They have lots of good advice and have shared some heartwarming stories of their own.

It's also good from time to time to read over the overview here about ADD/ADHD. While the information here is not to be used instead of your doctor's advice, sometimes it's good to read it over to help you ask the questions you want to ask of your doctor.

If you have been prescibed medicines, it's good to look them up here so you can see what effects and side effects each one has. It's also a good way to make sure there are no expected reactions to other drugs you might be taking.

There are also resident experts here who offer helpful advice for everything from new medical treatments to dealing witht he day to day grind. Eileen Bailey has initmate first hand knowlege on being a caregiver for someone with ADHD as her son was diagnosed at the age of 10.You can read all of her posts here. Also, Health Central is aligned with the ADDA, Attention Deficite Disorder Association, written by Evelyn Polk Greene, you can read all of the blogs and posts here

I hope you find this information helpful. Please do stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!!

p.s. Happy Birthday!! Mine is in a couple days from now. Aren't we Aries FUN people!!
