Ah yes, the never ending debate of medicating, over-medicating, under-medicating and misdiagnosing ADD/ADHD. For me, I'd have to say it was just right. I was on Concerta for a couple of years and benefited from being on it. However, the phrase "pills don't teach skills" is one of the most accurate an...

I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD, FOR YEARS DOCTORS BASED ON MY DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS TREATED THESE SYMPTOMS AS ANXIETY..

SO THEREFORE I WAS PUT ON ANTIDRESSENTS FOR YEARS . UNTIL THIS YEAR ,I WAS GIVEN RITILIN UPON MY RETURNING TO SCHOOL AFTER 15 YEARS OF BEING OUT OF SCHOOL I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A AGE FACTOR .BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE, THE RITILIN JUST SLOWED EVERYTHING DOWN FOR ME.I WOULD GET SO FRUSTRATED WITH MYSELF BEFORE BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE LIKE A HUNDREDTHINGS THAT I HAD TO DO!BEING A MOTHER,WORK,SCHOOL AND HAVING TO MICROMANGER EVERYTHING WAS SUCH A TASK TO GET EVERYTHING DONE...BECAUSE IN MY MIND I COULD NOT JUST THINK OF ONE THING INDIVIDUALLY!!!NOW I'M NOT AS FRUSTRATED OR RIDED WITH ANXIETY BECAUSE THE MEDICATION SLOWS EVERYTHING DOWN IN MY MIND TO WHERE

I CAN FOCUS ON EACH INDIVIUAL TASK AT HAND.I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!!

I FEEL THAT EACH TASK IN MY LIFE THAT I HAVE TO DO I GIVE IT MY FULL ATTENTION AND I FEEL THAT I MAKE BETTER DECIDISIONS IN MY LIFE BECAUSE

OF IT.IM VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE FINIALLY HAVE THIS PEACE.I ALSO HAVE A CHILD WITH ADHD EVEN HE HAS NOTICED A CHANGE IN ME.

I wish your stoyry would be my future's son story. He was diagnose at 8 with ADD. He's been on Aderrall until it didn't work anymore and that hen we knew about Concerta. TO me it's the best medication out there for ADD. He's now 15 and as a teenager he thinks he doesn't need medication anymore. He's extremely bright at school (taking all AP classes) but the social, forgetfullness part I think is still there. But you point of view amazas me when you say that once you learned new skills you realized that you didn't need the medication anymore. It could be my son's situation as well...I don't know yet. Congrats! you've done a great job for yourself!
