Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 04:58 PMThanks for the suggestions. Right after I read your post I looked up Pycnogenal and it does look to be a good alternative to what he is taking at present. I looked up also Tenex and though you might like it as well as your doctor is has too many bad side effects that are close to what I am trying to get away from now. So I would not even think about using. I am also a mother that through experience has seen that medications that we have taken as children come back and bite us as adults in regards to health issues. Though some research has been done no one truly knows how the meds that our children are taking now will affect them later. My middle son was dianosed as ADHD then misdiagnosed as BI Polar, taken off his AdHD meds and put on Bi Polar meds. Then later found that it was all ADD so he was back on ADHD meds, this cocktail caused alot of health and addiction problems so now he has a lot of problems that he would not have in first place. But like his father he discovered that through self control, experimenting with what works for him, what he can and can't do, suppliments and watching what he eats he has been able to get off all his meds and is healthier. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am a natural remedy sort of person and will not think of using anything that is not as natural as possible to what the body needs for my family. Now not all doctors/experts will agree with this but I have seen the impossible happen when you go back to as nature as possible solutions and get away form putting stimulates/toxins into the mix.
I asked this question because I was hoping that there were others out there that had the same view points and had found something that was working while being a support system. You have come the closest in given me Pycnogenol.
So thank you.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 09:53 PMThanks for your post. I wish I could tell you there was a proven alternative treatment for ADHD, but, at this time, there is not.
We have posted a great deal of information on the various alternative treatments available that may be of help to you:
If you choose to use any of these treatments, please talk with your doctor first as a precaution.

I've heard promising things about Pycnogenol. My son's doctor has recommended it for him. My son is now 5 and I'm still a bit reluctant to give him stimulants, so he's on Tenex (non-narcotic) and Pycnogenol which is natural and works by enhancing the effects of Tenex. They both lower his stress levels - making him calmer and more focused in school. Because he's growing so fast now, we've had to adjust the dosage of his medications accordingly. He is also taking Omega 3. These three seem to help him much better. You can look up information regarding Pycnogenol - you'll see that it's had positive results in children with ADHD. Good luck and God Bless.
