Question of the Week: What is Your Biggest Organizational Challenge?

By Eileen Bailey, Health Guide Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Those with ADHD are often "organizationally challenged" with piles of papers on virtually every surface in the house, cluttered desks and lost items.   In the past I have worked with some adults with ADHD who would have the least cluttered desk in the office. One woman explained that she could...

You would just not believe the clutter I can amass.  I actually have 2 HUGE storage units that I am paying a fortune for FULL of stuff.  And I don't even know why I still have all that stuff.

I am basically without a permanent home right now, living in an extended stay hotel and just getting by... and just barely keeping up with my storage unit rents.

My normal self in an apartment can be quite disorganized.  I have a bunch of pictures of my "clutter" that I will have to post soon.  I think one of the reasons I have moved so many times - too embarassed to even say - is that I can actually get organized to a degree when I do move.

The larger the space I live in the more the clutter.  Since I am living in a small suite right now I actually manage to keep things neater & cleaner and keep up with my dishes better (no dishwasher).

I just can not believe sometimes how hard it is to work on decluttering.  I can get started but get frustrated before the job is done and it feels like pulling teeth to try to get finished on a project.  I just get bored with it, and end up not caring.  So I just do a little at a time.  I try to do "this area" one day and then another area on yet a different day.

I swear, when I do clean off the table or some flat surface, my son makes a bee-line to that space to fill it up himself.  Is it just that he is in shock that he finds that space available and wants to take advantage of it while he can?

Meggie I know what you mean about flat surfaces. We can't seem to keep one open in our house for more than a few minutes. It never fails, as soon as I get a table cleaned off, someone needs to put something down. And all this time I have thought it was only my family... Eileen
